Personally, Jim owned and operated a family trucking business for 23 years and sold mobile communications and satellite tracking systems to trucking companies. He owned a Yogurtini franchise along with working as a sales consultant for Yogurtini, U-Swirl, and Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. Jim was the head of sales at Papa Murphy's, and as Director of Franchise Sales from 2003 to 2011, he helped to grow the company from 700 to 1,300 stores.
